Beyond the Frame…

The octopus is one of the most compelling mysteries in neuroscience. Unlike our own centralized nervous systems, the majority of an octopus's neurons live in its arms. This means each limb can sense, react, and solve problems independently—their thoughts effectively move through the body as direct action.

When I sat down to draw this, the headphones felt like a necessary piece of irony. Octopuses don't "hear" as we do; they lack ears entirely, relying instead on specialized organs to translate the vibrations of the deep. Yet, looking at the texture of the skin and the independent curve of each tentacle, it feels as though they are listening to a frequency we can’t perceive.

The headphones represent that curiosity... the idea that there is a layer of the world—a rhythm or a vibration—that exists entirely beyond our human perception. This piece is a nod to that hidden soundtrack. It’s a study of an intelligence that doesn't need to speak to be profoundly present.
