Artist’s Note

This piece was inspired by the mysteries of the heart-brain connection. I came across research suggesting the heart may carry cellular memories, holding traces of a donor’s personality or experiences after a transplant. I also read about the ways heart and brain health are linked, how they influence each other through both genetics and physical processes.

I think we all feel deep down that the heart is more than just a pump, even if science hasn’t fully explained it yet. Ancient cultures felt the same: the Egyptians and Greeks both saw the heart as the center of the soul, and the Chinese called it the emperor, regarding the heart as a ruler of sorts. For thousands of years, the heart has been recognized as carrying meaning beyond its biological function. I’m excited to see where research on these topics goes. This piece is my way of honoring this ongoing discovery
