Elton John is a presence I often carry with me when I sit at the piano. His playing shaped the way I approached music as a child, and that influence remains a constant in my life. Much of the respect I hold for him was passed down to me from my father... listening to Elton’s early music makes me feel close to my father’s own youth.

As I sketched the warm curve of his smirk, I thought about how his music transcends being merely "good." It is an immersive experience... something felt in the marrow rather than just heard. Part of that soul comes from the rare, long-term friendship between Elton and Bernie Taupin—a partnership built on a level of depth and longevity that is nearly unmatched in art.

Elton stands as one of the most deserving icons of the century. He is a master performer whose influence continues to ripple outward. I wanted this portrait to capture him in that early, golden era... a moment where the world was just beginning to realize the scale of the presence that had arrived.
