Beyond the Frame…

I have spent my life in the shadow of a name that means "Wisdom," yet as I worked on this portrait, I felt the heavy irony of that pursuit. Solomon, the wisest to ever live, concluded that the sum of human endeavor is nothing more than a chasing after the wind.

In this piece, I wanted to move past the legend of the golden throne and find the man beneath the crown. I focused on the weathered geography of his face... the way a life of unrivaled abundance carves lines into the skin. His eyes, though gentle, are piercing; they speak with the expressionless clarity of someone who has seen the end of every earthly desire.

No pleasure was withheld from him—riches, acclaim, power—yet he watched the weight he expected them to carry evaporate. I recognize that same pattern in my own life. The things I once believed would bring finality to my happiness often lose their luster the moment they are grasped. Our desires expand as we do... a restless, infinite hunger.

I chose to frame him closely, from the crown to the beard, to pull the viewer into the gaze. It is a reminder that the "treadmill" called life isn't a punishment, but a design. By exposing the limits of everything we can touch and own, Solomon’s weariness becomes an invitation... a quiet call to relinquish the chase and return to the only thing that truly satisfies.
